Bonus Room Design plans with Wayfair

Our first spec home is nearing completion, which means install day is right around the corner. I have spent countless hours dreaming up the interior look for our Astrid Haven spec home. One of the rooms I am the most excited abut styling the upstairs bonus room.

Designing a Bonus room

Having a finished bonus space is a wish list item for many customers, but figuring out what to do with a large rectangular space can create some challenges. This is where I come in. Furniture can make or break the room, and it is really important to design the space according to scale especially when it is a narrow space. I of course, turned to one of my favorite furniture retailers, Wayfair to come up with my design plan. I got especially excited when I realized their springs savings event was happening. I love that Wayfair has thousands of options for furniture and decor at up to 70% off. My favorite thing about Wayfair is that my orders have always shipped so fast which is super helpful for getting our spec home staged and on the market.

Functions of a Bonus Room & How We are Using it at Astrid

Bonus rooms can serve as homework areas, exercise rooms, or smaller family rooms. In our Astrid Haven, I wanted it to function as a small hangout family room. I found this charcoal grey sofa from Wayfair and fell in love with the shape. A chaise lounge works really well in a narrow space (if its wide enough) ,simply because it might be difficult to add in other seating on the sides.

Design Elements

I love mixing wood tones and brining in warmth to smaller spaces. If we weren’t selling this home, I might even color drench the room a dark color to compliment this sofa. Of course want to keep it neutral in case the buyer has a different idea for use of the space.

Turning to a favorite retailer

Along with the sectional sofa, Wayfair had so many more of the design elements I wanted to add in to the Bonus Room. I found this media console, which worked perfectly for a low pitched wall plate. I knew we wouldn’t be able to hang a TV on the slanted wall so a lower media console worked perfectly. During Wayfair’s Spring Savings event, I was able to execute so much of this design for the bonus room. Wayfair’s spring savings event with up to 70% off of furniture and decor runs from 2/22- 3/3.

Here is my work in progress mood board of the bonus room. Many of the furniture pieces I ordered from Wayfair have already arrived. I am really looking forward to putting the whole space together. I hope you will follow along as we complete our first spec home and get it ready for the market!
