Hearth Room Reveal: Soft Neutrals & Textures

hearth room inspiration

When working on our home plans, we knew that we wanted a second living room on our main floor. We call it our hearth room and it was a must have when designing our floor plan. Unfortunately, up until now, it has been one of the most challenging rooms to design and fall in love with. I finally got the motivation to redesign this space during the holiday season. You can check out how the space looked prior to the updates here.

Though I didn’t do any structural changes, there were a few design elements we added or fixed to solve some problems we encountered. Initially the room felt very small. I think it was because I was trying to fit in a sectional sofa so it would be cozy. I used a chaise lounge sofa, and faced it towards the TV.  With the sofa being so large, it felt like it cut off the room. I was also really drawn to some of the vintage earthy elements when I first designed the space, and since I feel like my style has evolved and changed a bit.

Hearth Room Refresh

Today this space functions completely different. We ended up removing the chaise lounge sectional and setting the room up as a sitting/conversation room. We placed two sofas across from one another which really opened up the space. I found this amazing coffee table at World Market, and the color was perfect. My biggest goal when designing this space was to show my followers how you can achieve a high end look at an affordable price point. Mostly everything in our hearth room is from Target, Walmart, World Market and Wayfair. You can read more about how I utilized pieces from Joss & Main/Wayfair here!

The two barrel velvet chairs are an absolute favorite of mine! They’re from the Studio McGee x Target Threshold line, and they’re amazingly comfortable for the price. Unfortunately, they’re currently out of stock, but I am hoping one day they will bring back these incredible chairs. I was lucky enough to gather some of my favorite textural pieces from The Citizenry, which is a brand I love for their mission and values. The chunky wool rug is so soft on our feet and is perfect for my kids who love playing with their Maileg Doll House in here!

We love how this room is set up so much more now and even find ourselves having longer conversations and play time in here instead of sitting and watching TV. I’m really happy with that outcome for the sole purpose of making lasting memories and having a space to just BE together. I hope you like the space as much as we do! For those interested in our fluted accent wall, look out for a post in the near future!
